Orthodox scholar, Dr Jonathan Zecher (Institute for Religion and Critical Enquiry, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne), recently offered a two-part lecture on Saint Diadochus of Photiki, a philokalic author whose influence reverberated till the end of the Byzantine era. Indeed, his impact upon the hesychast tradition is indisputable. Zecher’s lecture treats Saint Diadochus’ teaching on memory, remembering Jesus’ holy name, and the praxis of the spiritual life, together with their impact on spiritual guidance.
The lecture, “The Malady and Therapy of Memory in Early Monastic Spiritual Direction,” is hosted by the YouTube channel of the International Association for Patristic Studies. Its two parts can be found here and here.
